Within Palm™ Desktop organizer software, there's a button called "Install" along the left side of the application which invokes the install tool. It enables you to select third-party applications to be installed on your Palm™ OS device when you perform a HotSync® operation next time. Most programs downloaded to your desktop have the file extension .prc. A few files end with .pdb; these are data files used by programs, rather than programs in themselves.
If the file you downloaded ends with a .zip extension, you will need to uncompress it. Use WinZip to do this.
Here's how to install a .prc or .pdb file from your hard drive (or disk) onto your Palm™ handheld:
1. Launch the Palm™ Desktop software. 2. Click the Install button at the lower-left corner of the screen. A dialog box appears. 3. Click the Add button. 4. After finding the file you wish to install, select the file you wish to install by double-clicking the file. 5. After adding all the files you wish to install (you may install more than one at a time) click Done. 6. Perform a HotSync® operation. When you perform a HotSync operation, your application is installed automatically . Check the applications menu on your handheld to confirm that the program has been added.
NOTE: If you can not find downloaded applications on your desktop, please be sure that your file type is set to All Files when searching or opening a file. More than likely, this should solve your difficulty with locating a downloaded and saved application. You may also want to use the Find feature available through the Windows Start menu. It is a good idea to put newly downloaded Palm programs into the Add-On folder in your Palm Folder. This saves time when you select these programs for installation because, when you click the Install button, Palm Desktop looks in this folder first.
Delete: HOW DO I DELETE PALM APPLICATIONS OR CHANGE THEIR CATEGORY?
If you have a HandSpring Treo or a Palm with a built-in keyboard, you will probably need to do some weird key combinations to do the following. Please refer to your manual for more info. But if you have a regular Palm Pilot like a Palm V, read on.
On the bottom of you Palm Pilot is the four main function buttons and the up and down key in the middle. The four buttons are: (from left to right) Calendar, Address Book, To Do List, and Memos. Above the Calendar button is the Menu Bar button. This is under the Home button and to the left of the Graffiti Pad. Tap the Home button first because you need to be in the Home position to access its Menu options. Now tap the Menu Bar button and you should see the following options: Delete, Beam Category, Info and Copy. Tap Delete. You will now see a list of all the applications on your Palm Pilot. Delete away. To change an application's Category, select Category instead of Delete and organize them from there.
